Between this story arc and the government database of superhuman that no one cares about in this week's Avengers, June 1998 was clearly the month for lighthearted previews of concepts current day Marvel takes dead seriously.

I continue to love the Sensational Hydra/Skrull and how ridiculously impressed with himself he is. He shapeshifts into a giant pterosaur! He has a crush on Victoria Beckham! He uses the word "rubes!"

Steve's determination and ingenuity in the handcuffs scene was classic Cap ^_^.

The treatment of these story arcs is so different that, not for the first time, I wonder if modern 616 shouldn't have a new universe designation.

All villians should take a seat and learn something from the Sensational Skrull. He has panache. Usually anything involving skrulls has me twitchy and agitated, but he makes them so much fun. I liked his choice of unintelligent and blindly loyal minion too. There was a feeling of 60s camp in the entire issue.

Watching Steve jump down that elevator shaft though...that had my heart in my throat. As you say it was classic Steve.
