Cover image of Avengers volume 3 issue #2

Writer: Kurt Busiek
Penciler: George Perez

Morgan le Fay's magic has transformed the world into a medieval fairy-tale kingdom where she reigns as queen, and made the Avengers into her enchanted servants.

Thor is suspicious, Wanda is being used as a human magical battery, and Clint finally gets to live out his Robin Hood fantasies.

Clint should know there will always be another alternate reality. I was actually surprised that Clint snapped back to himself so quickly. One would think this would be a dream come true. He's an archer in a reality based on an era when archers decided the outcome of wars. This was your time Clint! I am highly amused that Steve believes he can break enchantments with Charisma. Sadly he didn't roll high enough on that speech check with Tony.

I think Tony crit. failed his will check, in Steve's defense.

(Also: Guilty.)

On a more serious note I thought it was an interesting bit of characterization that Steve had absolute conviction he could reach Tony. He and Clint seem to have completely different opinions concerning Tony.

Haha, Clint's just calling it like he sees it!

I think that Steve has a bad habit of always expecting A LOT from his people (not just Tony, but all of the founding Avengers really), and as much as he'd like ~convictions and sheer determination~ to be enough, I don't think his expectations are always achievable or even realistic.

Steve. You're gonna give him a complex.... Well, another complex.

It kind of amazes me sometimes, how much comics canon reads like crack fanfic. Let's write a medieval AU! They can all be knights and nobles and outlaws! Sure, no problem.

Hi, I meant to participate last week but better late than never I guess? Love the idea of doing a volume 3 reread.

The "Jarvis Tavern" at the beginning of this one cracked me up.

AW, ALTERNATE REALITY. Clint's pride that Steve came to him first is adorable.

I did love Steve being so confident that Tony would immediately recognize him and join him in the fight, and it's interesting that Tony didn't remember. Being an Avenger is very important to Tony. But I suppose it's true that Tony had a lot of other roles and responsibilities in his life, while Steve and Clint, not so much?

Loved the outfit Tony was sleeping in. ;) And "This is my BEDCHAMBER. It is MOST impolite to disturb--" Ahaha. How many times in canon have Steve and Tony disturbed each other in their bedchambers, anyway?

Clint's indignation at being caught in another alternate reality charms the daylights out of me. Hey, it's what you signed up for with this superhero thing. I know he's done the whole West Coast Avengers thing by now, but I'll always have a soft spot for a more bratty sidekick Hawkeye (which also seems to come out in full force when he's with Cap this run).

It's so Namor to be the one to cry outrage and punch people, isn't it?

I'm not sure if Moondragon had officially been revealed to be bi by this point in time - but I still went rrrrrow at her kneeling in front of Morgan.
